``Molecular Biology is a field of science concerned with studying the chemical structures and processes of biological phenomena at the molecular level. It was developed out of the related fields of biochemistry, genetics, and biophysics. The discipline is particulary concerned with the study of proteins, nucleic acids, and enzymes--i.e., the macromolecules that are essential to life processes. The discipline seeks to understand the molecular basis of genetic processes; molecular biologists map the location of genes on specific chromosomes, and use DNA technology to isolate and modify specific genes that determine the basic characters of plants and animals.
